我校的俄羅斯問題研究歷史悠久。 上海外國語大學的前身是上海俄文?？茖W校，成立于1949年，是我國重要的外語院校之一，其俄語語言文學學科是全國第一個獲得俄語語言文學博士學位授予權（1983）的學科點。
1980年，俄語系成立了蘇聯研究所，以蘇聯社會學和蘇聯教育學為主要研究方向，成為國內最早從事國際問題研究的專業機構之一，邁出了從單一的語言教學型院系向教學-科研相結合學科轉型的第一步。1992年5月，在蘇聯研究所的基礎上成立了國際問題研究所，研究方向拓展到國際關系，研究范圍增加到除俄羅斯以外的美國研究、德國研究、法國研究、中東阿拉伯研究等領域。俄羅斯問題研究長期以來一直是主要的研究領域之一，在國內有著一定的影響力。
上海外國語大學俄語系俄語言文學專業1987年被國家教委列為全國俄語語言文學唯一的重點學科，2001年被上海市教委評定為上海市重點學科。2002年和2007年又連續被列為國家重點學科，2009年入選國家級特色專業，在國內同類學科中占有重要的地位，綜合實力位居全國前列。
2011年12月，上海外國語大學俄語系和國際關系與外交事務研究院積極整合校內俄羅斯研究資源，相互協調與配合，將俄語語言文學、跨文化研究、外語戰略研究與國際關系研究等學科有機結合。在我校悠久的俄羅斯研究傳統的基礎上，共同組建成新的俄羅斯研究中心，并獲批成為教育部俄羅斯研究培育基地。·
2012年6月2日，俄羅斯研究中心學術委員會成立。
俄羅斯研究中心在與校內外專家多次深入交流的基礎上，就基地的發展規劃和研究方向達成了共識，即：充分汲取國內外俄羅斯教學和研究的經驗，努力發揮上海外國語大學長期積淀的俄羅斯文化研究、語言與文學研究、中俄關系史研究、俄羅斯思想研究的優勢，以國家文化發展戰略為導向，構建一個方法創新、學科交叉融合、專業優勢互補的新型的、跨學科的對俄研究和人材培養的新格局。

The Russian studies at Shanghai International Studies University（SISU）has a long history.
Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) formerly named Shanghai Russian College founded in 1949, is one of the most prestigious foreign studies institutions in China.SISU launched the first national Ph. D. program in Russian Language and Literature nationwide in 1983.
In 1980, the Russian Department established Institute of Soviet Studies orienting on Soviet sociology and education, which is one of the earliest research-oriented institutes committed to the studies in international affairs in China; it was a milestone for SISU’s discipline transformation from language-teaching orientation to teaching-researching oritation. Previously known as the Institute of International Studies of SISU and established in May 1992, it has seen a steady-fast extension of research fields, covering Russian, American, Germany, French, and Middle East studies. Particularly, Russian studies as one of the main research fields at SISU, is of great influence in China.
The Russian Language and Literature of the Russian Department at SISU was ranked as national key discipline by the Ministy of Education in 1987, and assessed as key discipline at municipal level by Shanghai Education Commission in 2001. It was listed as national key discipline in 2002 and 2007 as well as National characteristic major in 2009. SISU Russian studies occupies an important position in domestic similar disciplines and ranks in the top level within China.
The Russian department and the School of International and Diplomatic Affairs of SISU positively integrated Russian research resources，and organically combined the subjects of the Russian language and literature, cross-cultural studies, foreign language strategic studies and international relations research. based on SISU’s traditional Russian studies, the Center for Russian studies（CRS） was founded in December 2011, and approved by the Ministry of Education as Russian Research Training Base. Afterwards, the Academic Commission of CRS was established in June 2012.
Recently, CRS has reached a consensus on the development planning and research orientation on the basis of numerous in-depth exchanges with internal and external experts, which is to utilize domestic and international experience in Russian studies, to give full play of the long-term accumulative advantages of the Russian cultural studies, language and Cultural Studies, the history of Sino-Russian relations research, and Russian Thought at SISU, RRC will strive to build an innovative and comprehensive Russia studies pattern with interdisciplinary integration, professional complementary advantages under the guide of national strategy to highlight the depth of the studies and the students training.
